Backgammon in TV/films

Last night, I watched this 1974 episode of "Columbo," titled "A Friend in Deed," which opens with Richard Kiley at "the club," a mansion of sorts, where he's playing backgammon. In fact, the room is filled with nicely dressed people playing backgammon.

Nowadays, "the club" scene seems to be people meeting at a Denny's.

You nailed it. Though I would say if you go play backgammon in Europe, the proportion of luxurious venues is much higher than in the states.

Not that I would turn down an invitation to a Denny's backgammon meetup.
