Jadestone completes Japan Open qualifiers

STOCKHOLM, Sweden -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Jadestone Networks, the Nordic based owner and operator of multiplayer gaming networks GamArena and DiceArena, announced today that, via its partner the World Series of Backgammon (WSOB), it has completed online qualifiers in backgammon for the Japan Open.

The 2009 World Championships of Backgammon, being held at the Fairmont Hotel in Monte Carlo, Monaco from July 13 to July 19.

Event: The World Championship of Backgammon
Location: The Fairmont, Monte Carlo
Dates: Sunday July 12 to Sunday July 19
Entry Fees: Championship €1000, Intermediate €400, Beginner: €200
Format: two progressive Consolations and Last Chance

The 'Queen of Backgammon' Wins 2009 U.S.Open Championship

Carol Joy Cole a native of Flint, Michigan and founder of the 'Flint area Backgammon Club', made history at the 2009 American Backgammon Tour's U.S. Open. The tournament took place in Washington DC this past June 4th thru the 7th.
Ms Cole defeated 24 other top players along with defeating the 1989 Backgammon World Champion in the final round to become the first woman to win the US Open Tournament. readmore

Backgammon is a board game played with dice. It takes two players who move the pieces in accordance with the roll of the dice. When all the checkers from the board are removed, the player wins. Backgammon belongs to the ‘tables’ family and is one of the earliest variety of board games in the world. The word ‘backgammon’ was incorporated in the Oxford English dictionary in 1650. The game got its name from ‘back’ and ‘gamen’, that is, ‘play’ or ‘game’.
